Scottish Mainland

Collapsed Barn, Shenavallie.

Open Edition Print.

I would quite often climb over the barbed wire fence at the

bottom of my garden and wander down to the shore

across this wet farmland that quickly gave way to salt flats.

On a high Spring tide, particularly if combined with a storm

surge we could have the sea on three sides of us.

My favourite times were late summer evenings when I would

sit out on a folding chair in the garden with a cup of tea

listening to Snipe diving over the fields in the late dusk,

one of the most fabulous sounds you will ever hear.
